I have upgraded to Windows 10 and my Toshiba laptop has 8gb RAM but windows only shows 2.86gb as usable. My Bios shows 8gb is installed but when I check in [Control Panel\System and Security\System] it says only 2,86 is usable and everything is running really slow.

I have run MSCONFIG from Windows 10 start menu and under [boot][advanced] reset the maximum memory value to 8gb, but when I restart the laptop it reverts back to the previous sys config of no value, i.e the Maximum Memory box is unchecked checked and a '0' in the greyed out box and I can't seem to find away resolve this.

I also have NORTON 360 running.

Any clues?

I am sorry for the delay in replying.

According to your specs, it seems the OS is 32 Bit (x86). If it is 32 Bit OS, then 4 GB is the max the OS will recognize. And out of 4 GB, some of the memory is hardware reserved and hence you will only see between 2.5-3.5 GB as available, rest is optimized for the hardware.

You will need to upgrade the OS to Windows x64 Edition in order for the 8 GB to be recognized.
