I recently built my new PC and it has a Gigabyte Z170-HD3 mobo. I installed the ethernet drivers on their website and that didn't work. I then tried the disk that came with the mobo and that didn't work either! It shows the ethernet symbol with a red x next to it in my taskbar. Please help!

Try a different LAN cable? If you go into Device Manager, do you see the Ethernet adapter listed and is it indicating any issues, like has a yellow symbol on it?
What are you plugging into, a router or modem or a gateway (modem and router combined)?

I have tried 2 different cables that work on other computers. And no, I do not see any network/ethernet adapters in device manager. I'm plugging it into a powerline adapter (google it). Also, when I install the realtek drivers, it says something about deep sleep mode and to plug something in.

It should show the adapter in device manage even if you don't have it plugged into anything. That is odd. When you right click on the network icon with the red X and hit troubleshoot does it tell you anything?

I keep a cheap USB wireless adapter handy for these occasions, I use that to make the initial connection to the internet and let Windows update what it can. Can sometimes solve these issues. Just an idea if you end up getting stuck.

it says "Install a driver for your network adapter". Also, the wireless adapter doesn't work for some reason. It is enabled in the bios so I dunno.

Do you have an unknown device showing up in your device manager? Can you go into it's properties, then Details tab, then pick Hardware Ids from the drop down and tell us what one of them says? You can also Google that along with "need driver" and you might find another driver you can try.
