I have a question about the Canon Pixma MG 3500, is it possible to use it as a stand alone copy/printer. In other words can it be used to copy and print without the need for a computer or other electronic device?

Recently a family member bought one with the hopes of doing just that. I've never worked with printers before and have very little knowledge in that area. A glance at the users manual seems to suggest that it might work on it's own but I don't want to take it out of the box to test it as that would void the return and she has a few days to return it. I'll leave a link to the users manual below. If this machine doesn't work as a stand alone copy machine could you recommend a cheap copy machine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

MG 3500 is the name for a Canon Series that has two models: MG3450 and MG3550.

Either model should work as a stand alone device to copy or scan without needing a computer and/or network.

However, that said, All-in-one printers have dependencies requiring network and/or computer access to get firmware updates, manage/monitor inks,etc.. May or may not prove problematic in the future.

And, per the following link, standalone copy machines are obsolete so to speak:

My suggestion is to go online with Canon's tech support and do a chat to confirm standalone use.

Ask your questions directly and document the chat and the answers you received. Preserve and print out the chat text...
