Hey TH forum,
First of all thanks for reading and helping.
I've recently purchased some used laptops that are missing drives and building them back up to resell. Many of these laptops use M.2 SSD as their only form of storage option (Dell Latitude 7350). I've purchased a good chunk (10-20) of these SSDs on ebay (used). I've had 2 drives now not reporting as many GB as they should.

Drive 1 - Transcend 256gb TS256GMYS800 - Only reading 14.5GB
Drive 2 - Samsung Evo 500gb - Only reading 73gb and saying Intel drive, not Samsung.

I've purchased a ZTC external M.2 to USB 3.0 adapter from Amazon that arrived tonight, and upon trying this i still have the same results.

Is there some software i can load in windows or elsewhere that i can use to try to restore the SSDs? Is it possible that previous owners tried to wipe their old data and messed up the drives in the process? I'm great with computers but still very new to M.2.

Any help is really appreciated!
Thank you for your time.

Hey there, AParsh135i.

Well, I can't really say for sure what might be wrong, but it could be due for messed up partitions, so yes, it's possible for the users to have removed the partitions with the personal data, leaving that space as unallocated. Have you checked what it says about those drives in Disk Management? If not, would you please be so kind as to post a screenshot of what you see there, while you have them connected. Here's how to open it: How to access Disk Management in Windows.

As for the software you've mentioned, most drive manufacturers offer tools for their SSDs which help you manage the drive (update firmware, check health status, use other features, secure erase, etc.) so I'd recommend that you check their...

It might be a good idea to check them for errors with a diagnostic tool as well.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
