Hello, I have a HP 15-an051dx gaming notebook with these specs:

Star Wars Special Edition
Intel Core i7-6600U 2.6Ghz (3.1 TB)
NVIDIA GeForce 940M 2GB
Intel HD Graphics 520

I want to upgrade my CPU (no, it's not soldered, it's socketed) to an Intel i7-6700K. I'd like to know if it is compatible with my laptop. If it isn't, which processor should I get with the capability of the 6700K. Thanks.

Thats the problem everything about the model you posted shows BGA only cpus and requires a replacement motherboard with the CPU attached or a rework station an extensive exprience with desoldering and resoldering BGA sockets.

Heres a list if other bga1356 cpus http://www.cpu-world.com/Related_CPUs/BGA1356_Skylake.html . However the 6600u is the fastest with an 18w tdp the faster cpus have a higher tdp and are likely not supported. Good luck.

Putting in an SSD or upgrading RAM to 16GB would be much more beneficial than upgrading CPU in that system. You won't notice much of a difference with a CPU upgrade.

Hard to tell if you can go above a U series chip without creating more problems due to more heat and power draw than the computer is designed to cope with.

A possible heat problem would be avoided since I have both a powerful cooling pad and air vacuum. Would you know if there is a way to solve a power drawing issue? And also this upgrade is so I can effectively run Planet Coaster (https://www.planetcoaster.com/).
