Recently my motherboard, hard drive and DVD drive all died. Was using the computer halfway when the system just powered out.

Couldn't get it to boot subsequently.

Unsure of what is the cause of it. Any ideas?

Bought a new motherboard and CPU and using the old PSU.

New system couldn't detect the old DVD drive and old hard drive. However, the DVD drive can still be powered on and can eject out. Nonetheless bought a new drive and it detected straightaway as well as other old spare drive that I had.

Unsure if it is safe to use the old PSU in new build? PSU, CPU and ram are the only working components from the previous build.

Had a diagnostic by a computer shop that suggested the motherboard is dead. Can I be sure it has nothing to do with the PSU?

Hey there, @clay9477!

I'd definitely check if the mobo is compatible with the PSU first before testing it with another power supply unit as @badboyrog2 suggested. It will definitely help you determine what could be the source of the issue. Another thing you should do, since the PC repair shop had done full diagnostics on the system already, I'd also suggest you go back there and ask them to test the power supply unit itself. It could easily damage other hardware components, so better be safe than sorry.

Hope this helps. Best of luck! :)
