Hey everyone,

I own a ASUS TP550la originally running Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1, then 10.

After a long day, I powered it off and put it away in my laptop bag.

When I pulled it out the next hour at a Starbucks, the fans were still on at full blast and my HDD was on, at a slower speed just spinning with the power LED on, which overheated my laptop and drained my battery. When it's in sleep, the power LED usually just flashes until I open it back up, as normal. Currently when I close it, the laptop light stays on but never recovers and I would have to power it off completely (holding power) and losing all my data.

Another note is that shutting down from the menu just does the same thing, but only after using it after an hour or two.

Is it a hardware issue that I can fix, or do I have to send it to ASUS to get it fixed?
Turning off Fast Boot in BIOS and W10 doesn't help, and nothing much is installed on my computer as it's a fresh install.

Specs;

Processor: Intel Core i5 4210u @ 1.70 GHz, up to 2.7 GHz
RAM; 6GB RAM DD3RL SODIMM
HDD; WDC WD5000LPVX-80V0TT0 500 GB
OS; 8, upgraded to 8.1 to W10

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

By default, Win 10 on shutdown doesn't actually turn off your system like it did in earlier Windows, but instead goes into a "Hybrid shutdown" mode.

Further info and a solution on how to fix this,

I've disabled it before, no result. A few months ago it was working just fine. I could fully shut it down, put it to sleep and resume perfectly, but now nothing works.

Already tried, even completely reformatting and starting over. Still no avail :(

Try changing the power button and lid settings and look if it has any effect.

That's about it that you can do from software side.

If the problem is hardware side then my best guess would be the PSU of power adapter that doesn't want to work properly anymore.
About the same can be seen on desktop PCs where PSU doesn't support Intel's C6 and C7 sleep states. What happens is when you put your PC to sleep and when you wake it up, you'll get BSoD. After seeing BSoD, only the hard shutdown fixes this problem. But on desktop PCs the C6 and C7 sleep states can be disabled from BIOS, thus eliminating the wake up issues.

Rather than you starting to fiddle in BIOS, i suggest that you return your laptop to the Asus for a check and fix.
