Why Has My CPU Temperature Increased?

I just built this computer and I was having trouble getting all the RAM to show (Only half was showing). I wound up fixing that by reseating the CPU. In doing that, I had to remove the thermal compound that came preapplied to my CPU cooler (H100i v2) and apply some Arctic MX-4. I cleaned the surfaces very well with lens cloth and alcohol then I put a pea-sized blob of mx-4 in the center.

Before all of this, my CPU was around 30-33c. Now it's running between 36 and 41c. Is it because of the 2 extra RAM sticks now registering and quad-channel working or have I messed up the paste?

My CPU: i7-6850k
Cooler: Cooler Master H100i v2
RAM: 4 sticks of 8GB 3200.

Thank you.

My guess is that you don't have covered enough of the CPU to get the best coverage needed for the 6 core CPU that you have. Now you don't want to put too much on, but I would definitely would pull off the cooler and see how well the thermal paste worked out for you.

Dammit. Can I watch a few movies first? lol. Not going to hurt right? I've got my eye on the temps. Even though they've increased, these aren't really high temps.

No your temps are fine, but if you want to get back to or close to your previous temperatures you will have be check it out further. If your CPU isn't running >80 degrees centigrade, then you are going to be just fine. You shouldn't be that hot with that AIO cooler, but just to give you a number to look at for a limit. I think the CPU can handle >90C, but I wouldn't recommend running a system with that high of temps.

Alright, it's a little better now but not where it was. I had way too much paste in. A pea-sized ball is too much. I replaced with a thin line. Now I'm idling in my OS (Linux + plasma + a bunch of programs running) at 35-36c. Still not quite where I was but I think that's just because the thermal pad that came with the h100i v2 was so perfectly spread out. It might also be that Arctic MX-4 isn't so great (idk). I did read online that you can buy what are called pillows or some such that are similar to the pad that came with the cooler so I think I'm going to buy some of those.

The main purpose of this thread though was just to talk a bit about paste and make sure that's what the problem was and that's obvious now.

Thanks
