Hello community,

thanks for taking the time to read this.:D I know this has been asked probably a lot of times, and I've checked the search first but ran into mixed answered and wanted to post my exact specs so hopefully someone that has years of experience in hardware and windows software (especially Windows 7) can help me out.

Right now I have a ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional Motherboard and the CPU is a AM3+ 8150 six core.

I just purchased 9590 cpu with a liquid cpu headsink cooler for it (it was the fastest supported cpu for my mobo and said it needed to be water cooled and top down fan)
(Reason I bought this was cpu was on sale and I also read that it wasn't possible to replace motherboard and CPU without installing Windows 7 again. :??:

Want I REALLY want to do is get a new mother board and get a i7 or better and hook it all up without reinstalling Windows 7 again along with the hundreds of programs and files. ( This is my music production workstation and my ideal way to go)

Any help is Greatly Appreciated and anyone that could tell me the real answer to this would be awesome so I can either install this new cpu or send it all back and get that new mobo and CPU!:bounce:

P.S. I've also read that you can replace with AMD at lease, so I would even settle for a new mobo and another AMD CPU if that's the case. Let me know what you think communtiy! thanks you.

Not so definitive answer:

If you use sysprep you MIGHT be lucky and it will take you back to a state before the OS sees the hardware, BUT this is not the intended purpose and there can be side effects. BUT licenses will still need to be refreshed etc.

Swapping out the 8150 to the 9590 is no big deal and wont need a windows reinstall. Just shut down the computer swap parts and then boot back up and you should be good to go.

Swapping motherboards I would always recommend reinstalling windows, especially moving from amd to intel.
