I've been asking a lot here about my upgrading my notebook's RAM and I forgot that it still has the standard global 2-year warranty.

I plan to add another 4GB DDR4 to it because of compatibility issues for an application that we locally use at our campus. By doing so will I void my warranty?

My device is an ASUS X456UQ

In notebooks i've worked on, they had little stickers on them right where you'd have to open it. So when you do that, you would rip the sticker apart, that way, violating the warranty.

If there's none on your notebook, there's maybe a chance that you want remove it and the warranty remains intact, it really deppends on each situation, so i cannot give you a general rule about this.

But, normally, companies don't stick with their warranties after you've altered their products.

I can't say, as i don't support violations, and can't comply with lies. Sorry

I'd just recommend for you to read the entire warranty and see if there's something about opening the notebook and altering it's pieces. This way it will solve any doubts you may have.

Or, just don't break it and do everything properly, that way you won't have to activate the warranty and problem solved as well.

I have worked mostly with HP and Dell business laptops and there has never been an issue with adding new RAM voiding warranty. Neither have I found seal stickers like Manddy said, but that could be from different manufacturers.

If there is an issue in the future with your laptop, as you said it is best to just remove your extra RAM, plus any other modifications like hard drive, and return the laptop to its normal specs, and then call in to see if the issue is covered by warranty.

Oh well this ends my hopes of passing the subject... retaking that specific subject only next semester before I can finally graduate... What a bummer...
I regret selecting that subject as my free elective damn :(

Maybe it's a thing just where i live...

So, if it's okay where you guys live, go for it. Do it carefully and you will have no problems whatsoever! @NDDU

That could definitely be it manddy. For reference I live in the US, so if you live somewhere else Julius you may want to talk to someone local. If you're still unsure, your IT support on your college campus is usually a great place to ask these sort of questions since I am sure they get plenty of them.
