Hello! A friend is giving me his Nvidia gtx 770(GV-N770OC-2GD) windforce edition to upgrade away from my amd 6870.

I currently use a Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 550w Power Supply (RS550-PCARE3-US)

Now I have seen some posts talk about that sometimes a 550W can supply enough power for a single 770. Was wondering if I may have such luck? Thanks!

CPU: AMD 955 Black Edition
Ram 16GB

Solution
A high quality 550 Watt power supply would work but the one you have overstates the watts is very low quality and is not something I would try with the parts you have listed.

Yea, while it would be GREAT to have a 650W psu, which is probably what I would need. I just dont have any money to go out for a new one. Which is why I am checking if I should even attempt to use the 770 on my current psu. With my 6870, the 550W works fine to power everything in my case. (Antec 900)

i think it will work but the specsheet shows its minimum is a 600W psu as it uses 230W.
but i think you should try thecalculator and just try it, if it isnt enghough it will probaly not boot or give a loud beep but as its not a new bought card and you dont spend any money, you should just try it and see what happends.

More than likely pop the power supply and potentially take other parts out with it.

Well I have an Antec 900 case, so I would assume it should fit the Nvidia, since it currently fits my AMD 6870 right now.

Then with a 3.2 Ghz Quad Core 955 Black Edition, not even OCed yet. I would think I have enough to prevent bottle necking.

I know my MOBO is only a M4A77TD which is 2.0 PCI-E, however from what I read, 3.0 doesnt make a huge difference in terms of gaming and gpu as much as people would think.

it does make a little difference but not too much i believe but i am not certian. i got a fx-6300 cpu @3.5-4,1ghz 6 core but when i bought my RX 470 people on forums said it would be a big bottleneck and so but i got it and it performs great (1080P high settings) on the games i play whiche are war thunder and world of warschips. when you have the card and psu plz tell me how it runs and if it works all fine and well.

P.S sorry for the late response, i had school and work today so i completly forgot......

Well so far so good! 3dMark via steam puts me in the 6500 score for First Strike, AMD 6870 was like 2600. Also PSU 850W is working fine.
FFXIV is giving me about 60-80s now in FPS when before I was like 30-50 fps.
