Can't upgrade ram

my frend wants to upgrade his computer by adding ram but every time he puts in the ram the pc does not want to start and beeps 3 times, I know it might be the ram that is defective but I don't think it is because it's brand new so I don
t think it's DOA

Is he using the correct RAM? What model PC and what RAM is he using, and, what RAM is he trying to upgrade to?

he needs DDR3 and has bought DDR3 RAM speed does not really matter it will run at the max speed supported which is 1067MHz, the PC is some Lenovo PC stat does not have a name and the motherboard is only labeled Lenovo and CPU-z only says Lenovo, he is trying to upgrade from 2GB to 6GB

Have him boot it with the old RAM, then go to crucial.com and run the scanner. This will tell you what RAM he has and also what is compatible, along with the maximum it can take.
Post back what it says please.
