Hello guys,

I had 2 x 4 Gb G.Skill Sniper 9-9-9-24 DDR3 / 1600 (F3-12800)
I purchased another 2 x 4 Gb identical set, the other day.

When I look at CPU-Z - SPD tab: Slots 1&3 are showing up as Single channel. (New Ram)
When I look at CPU-Z - SPD tab: Slots 2&4 are showing up as Dual channel. (Older Ram)
When I look at CPU-Z - MEMORY tab: Channel # says Dual.

Motherboard - Gigabyte P55a Ud4p
i7-860 @ 3.8 Ghz
XMP profile disabled, manual spd timings @ 8 = ~1400 mhz

I have also tried enabling XMP profile, but that actually sends the Ram speed through the roof and refuses to boot.

Any ideas what could be happening/suggestions?

thanks,
Marc

Hey Marc,
Did you tried different slot configuration? Try white=old rams nad blue=new ram, I have the same memory cpu and almost the same motherboard but never had problems like this. Are you sure the sticks are the same? Because there are a Low Voltage models too. Try to do a memtest if it's still the same of each stick.
I look forward to your reply.
Endless.

All 4 ram pieces are identical.
I ran memtest all night and it passed with zero errors.
I did try a different configuration, swapping old/new - white slots to blue and vice/versa.
No difference.

It's quite a mystery why Slots 1,3 (White) are now showing up as Single Channel when all 4 slots are used (16 Gb).
Yet, when I only ran my old 2 x 4 Gb [has to be in Slots 1,3 (White)], CPU-Z shows up as Dual channel.
