I'm currently connected through wi-fi to a router (ZXDSL 931VII) which is a couple of thick walls away, using Edimax 7128g adapter. Recently, I found an old, working Thomson 782i router and I want to know if it is possible to set up the Thomson router to act as a repeater for the wireless signal coming from ZXDSL. There is no DD-WRT support for either router, and connecting them with a LAN cable is not possible... also, the two locations do not share the same electricity meter, meaning powerline adapters are out of the question.

The device would actually have to have a repeater feature which is not common.

Still where would you put it. It does little good to put in you room. It will get the same crappy signal as you pc and the repeat it which greatly degrades even very good signals.

You would have to find some place say 1/2 between that gets good signal and can still transmit a good signal to your pc. In many cases because of the degradation to the signals repeaters have a low strength signal off the router will be better than a strong signal off the repeater. There is a difference between signal strength and signal quality. Very few network adapters will show for example the percentage of packets loss or delayed.
