I have Windows 10, a 120gb ssd and a 500gb hdd on a new build. The hdd is a Seagate ST3500620as salvaged from an old HP. I am using it until new WD 3tb gets here in a few weeks. When I drag files, 300mb in size and larger, to the recycle bin the "File is too big for recycle bin do you want to permanently delete this file?" pops up. I have never seen this on smaller files like this before but haven't worked with 2 physical drives since xp and back then most files were relatively small. Is this because it is on a different sata port? It also tends too hesitate when I open it up in explorer when it's been idle for a while. Are these normal behaviors? Seagate site said firmware was up to date.

Hey there, @Dalton7821!

@Delroy is right, you can adjust the size of your Recycle bin however you like. Another alternative would be to simply hold down the Shift key and delete the large file permanently. Even if the Recycle bin itself is limited to the amount of deleted data it stores, permanently deleting the files from there will free up the space on your hard drive. When you open the Recycle bin, how many deleted files you see there?

Before upgrading your storage, make sure you always keep backups of your precious files to at least one more off-site location. Having duplicates of your data is the surest way to avoid any potential data loss!

Hope this helps. Good luck! :)

BTW, the recycle bin exists on each drive. It doesn't actually pick up a file(s) and put them in a 'special' place. It just marks them in the drive index to not be used until actually deleted using the clear items from the recycle bin command.

Ok, thanks. I had no problem populating recycle bin with several files 1gb in size when the 500gb was the only drive. Now that the ssd is my boot drive did windows configure the recycle bin size proportionate to the 120gb ssd?
