run the cmd as admin ....if you want to run it as a different user ,, hold shift and right click the cmd and choose "run as different user " and key in the admin credentials ..

for shutdown command .. key in " shutdown /s "
for restart command .. key in " shutdown /r "
without the quotes
that will do the trick

Maybe i havent explained all the scenario. What im trying to do is to shutdown a computer that is not mine. I am running the cmd shutdown which I run as an administrator in my computer as well as im the administrator of my computer. It does not let me shutdown that computer even though i now its ip address as well as we are on the same local network. Acces is denied (5) always there.

As i said, i can run the cmd as an admin in my computer but it will not allow me to shutdown the other computer from my computer. I needed to do this so that there will be no need for me to shutdown the other computer physically from its power button,

You're running the CMD line as computer 1's admin, attempting to shut down computer 2. Computer 1's admin =/= computer 2's admin, ergo you do not have the rights to shut down computer 2 as computer 1's admin. You have the rights to shut down computer 2 as computer 2's admin, you do not have the rights to shut down computer 2 as computer 1's admin. Being the admin of a single computer does not give you admin rights over every other device on a network. What's wrong with computer 2 that you can't just go shut it down without pressing the power button? Can you not get a display off of it... Is there a virus/malware present that is prohibiting manual shutdown... etc? Why can you not shut it down via it's own machine? Or is this simply for convenience's sake?

Yes, its for conveniece sake. I have two computers (in the second floor and 1st floor). If ever i go upstairs, its so tiring to go down again to manually shut it down.

In my school back in 2009, we have computers running in windows xp and i have the capacity to shutdown other computers from my computer using cmd for fun. That is why i thot maybe i could apply this into my home computers. So is there really no solution to this problem of mine?

I have read and followed the link you posted but still i get the error message. I was only able to start the remote registry but i dont really know how to be a member in the Administrators group on the remote computer (the thread did not show how its to be done). This is maybe why i still get the error message.

Sorry I didn't get an alert that anyone had posted. Well I first had to go into advanced system properties and allow other computers on the local network to remotely connect. Then on the app store i downloaded "Remote desktop" app (both windows store and apples store have it) then you create a profile in the app with your computers name (make sure it is set to be discover-able on the network), your username, and password and it logs you in to your computer. Then all you have to do is click on the shutdown button just like normal. You won't be able to turn it back on remotely though.
