Skyrim Lags with a good pc

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick question, I want to know why my Skyrim lags (with mods - enb etc) even though I have a decent pc. I understand Skyrim could be considered a somewhat 'primitive' game in terms of design, but frankly, it really annoys me when I see people on youtube who in essence have the same pc as i do but get a constent 60fps with graphical mods (enb, grass mods etc).

As i have tested today, it is evident that the enb is what makes me lag but my main question as stated before - why are others who practically have an identical pc to me, able to run Skyrim with mods and enb's and get great frame rate whilst i cannot?

Thank for the help

*I should also quickly note that I am able to run other games like GTA V and Assassins Creed Unity on High to Ultra settings - I would assume that offers evidence that my rig can handle games*

PC SPECS:

Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 4gb GDDR5 = 16GB of RAM GDDR3= Intel Core i7-4770 - 3.40GH = 1TB Hard drive x3.

If you have a lot of texture mods installed then it will eat your VRAM. If this is the case, then you can usually get variations of these mods with lower texture maps included as secondary install options. i.e. 4k texture mods, will also have 2k versions etc.

Also there are ini tweaks to lower the "ugrids to load", which will dictate how many textures are loaded within a single scene.

Check into lowering/disabling some of those graphical mods first to see if it helps with the FPS. If it does, then you can work from there.

I know in my experience with modding Skyrim, I had to carry out a lot of ini tweaks to the graphics settings in order to get stable framerate. However I googled and found a mod that may do the needful quickly for you. It seems to get good endorsements from the Nexus, and as far as I have read about it, it will do the same sort of tweaks for you without having to manually go through the ini files.

Install MSI Afterburner There are settings within that which can provide an OSD (On Screen Display) when in game. You can configure it to show a lot of different temps, & RAM usage, etc.

So even though my pc is decent, the lag comes from the games poor engine and potential some of the mods im using which may not be greatly optimized?

Vanilla Skyrim should run just fine, bugs and glitches aside (it is a Bethesda RPG after all). If the VRAM usage isn't very high then I'd wager that the mod simply isn't as optimised as it could be.

If the GPU runs out of VRAM then it will revert to system RAM, which is considerably slower.
