I am trying to decide what memory to get for an i7 6700k Skylake with a ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO LGA 1151 Intel Z170 mobo. I was looking to maybe get this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231905&cm_re=G._Skill_Ripjaws_3466_memory-_-20-231-905-_-Product , but i am not sure if this is overkill or what memory i should buy that is compatible. And i need to know if i have to change anything in BIOS after i install all of this, like changing XMP Profile or something, and the procedures on how to do that. I am only wanting to run the i7 6700k at the stock 4.0 - 4.2GHz, i will not need to overclock the CPU. I just need to know what memory to get, the one listed above or something else? Here are the specs for the i7 6700k, http://ark.intel.com/products/88195/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz , it only shows 4 different types for memory where the mobo shows a bunch of them. Here are the mobo specs, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83UD9927&cm_re=ASUS_ROG_MAXIMUS_VIII_HERO_LGA_1151_Intel_Z170_HDMI_SATA_6Gb%2fs_USB_3.1_USB_3.0_ATX_Intel_Gaming_Motherboard-_-13-132-565-_-Product

Solution
it's doesn't really matter that much if you got a 2133mhz or 3200mhz , it will not be a big difference , i think you can go in the middle

if you want the 4x4

http://a.co/flisuXO
http://a.co/35Tm9Af

again you may get 5 fps different , so get the 2666
cuz the one you chose is overkill

and yes you'll need to oc you ram to get to their max speed , i recommend using xmp > https://www.youtube.com/watchv=NTWEzTV8B54

hope i helped :D

Hi crazycorey44 :)

My advice is to choose a kit from the ASUS QVL list. The list contains different size kits and frequencies that have been tested with your MB.
Go here: https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO/HelpDesk_QVL/

It will depend on the strength of your CPUs IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) if 3466MHz will be supported as that is a considerable overclock. There is little to gain with higher frequencies and would involve Bios intervention with no guarantee of success to get them to work.

Intel max recommendation is 2133MHz for your CPU, so I would stick with that.

You can set your XMP profile in Bios. ( best method). Go to Advanced>AI Overclock Tuner and select for XMP if your DIMMs have an XMP profile.
