If your motherboard is old but it still had a PCI-E slot to hold it doesn't mean the bios is compatible, though you may be able to update the bios and it will work... If you do and it doesn't work then is simply your bios that doesn't understand the GPU. I had the same problem and I had to get a new motherboard. Hope this helps.
