Will there be enough thermal paste left on cpu fan after one use?

Had to return my motherboard and I rubbed the thermal paste that came from the cpu cooler of the cpu to get it out which was probably a mistake however the fan still has some left. Will this be enough for another use on a different motherboard?

Solution
No. Whenever you remove the CPU Heat Sink from the processor, you should always remove the thermal paste with Isopropyl alcohol and replace with new thermal paste.

Should remove the paste off the fan as well?

Yes.

Yes. It should be completely removed from both the CPU and the Heat Sink.

Even IF you did have the original paste covering the entire CPU top face surface area, you should never re-use. A re-use could trap contamination, or air pockets creating "Voids" in paste coverage making the thermal dissipation worse than before. I've experienced this first hand. There are also You tube techniques for optimal paste application when new.

Does this still apply if you haven't actually properly used the motherboard?

I guess the question is, 'do you want to risk it or go buy a cheap tub of paste for a few dollars?'

If you ever remove the CPU heatsink you should ALWAYS remove the old stuff and replace it with new. On both the heatsink and CPU. You'll run into some serious temp issues if you don't.

Yes, it still applies. If your heat sink came in contact with the processor and thermal paste in between, you should remove it, clean off the existing thermal paste and re-apply new thermal paste.
