Earlier this week my computer ate shit and display feed doesnt come through my GPU or motherboard. Sent it in to frys on Wednesday and they told me the motherboard is shot.

It was a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Micro ATX. The repairman told me that if I don't find an identical replacement, windows will have to reset and I'll lose the contents of my HDD, which I dont think would be too huge of a loss but there are some photos in there I havent backed up.

He told me something else that kind of confused me, that 1155 components will work on an 1150 board, but I might have been misunderstanding him there, so if someone could clarify on that it'd be appreciated.

The search for another GA-B75M has come up with prices from 'questionable' to 'NOPE', and newegg has shown me other 1155 boards for cheaper.

I'm all ears on what I should do from here, though upgrading to 1150 or 1151 board/CPU/ram is out of my price range.

and as a sidenote, the chipset is Z97, but I'm not sure if that spec pertains to the CPU or the motherboard itself, and if the motherboard, how important is it for whatever I replace it with to also by Z97?

Yeah, those are about the typical price I've seen them for.

Alternatively, something that just came up is an acquantance of mine offerred me an MSI Gaming 970 board + FX 8350 CPU, and a Cooler Master EVO 212 for basically nothing. That board is too big for my current tower, but they pointed out this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2J53T93893&cm_re=tower_case-_-9SIA2J53T93893-_-Product

Getting these and swapping the good bits of my old PC in is kind of appealing since this is an overall cheaper option, though I am seeking more educated opinions on this. What do you think?
