Hi there,

I installed a speedy Samsung 950 Pro M.2 512gb as a boot drive (Win10pro) and have a couple of good games in it for quick loading. However, I wanted to install an additional large and much cheaper "regular" SSD drive through SATA Express connection for storage, other games, etc. So in windows and bios, both does not recognize it. I've already tried this with other SSD drives from different brands. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something in BIOS/UEFI I have to "switch on/off"? My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 5 rev. 1.1. PLEASE HELP! Thank you!

haha, yes. Fair question though. I've even switched the cables. In case if it matters my power supply is EVGA 750GQ. Also, FYI I am total noob status when it comes to building a computer so I'm sorry in advance if this is a dumb question, lol. Again, many thanks!

I assume you really didn't intend to select best answer, so I unselected it.

Here is the link to the user's manual -- http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z170x-gaming5_v1.1_e.pdf

PDF page 16 shows the SATA connectors -- Which port(s) have you connected the SATA drive to ?

PDF page 18 shows which ports you can use when using an M.2 SSD. You have to use one of the configurations with check marks.
