Good morning fellow overclockers! I've hit a wall with my x4 860k: 4.2ghz. Now I've read plenty of cases where people can hit 4.4 or 4.5ghz. It seems no matter how much voltage I throw at it, I can't get it stable.

At 4.2 I'm stable at 1.3625v. I've gone as high as 1.4250v for 4.3 and can't go for more than 30 seconds in Prime95 without a crash. Can I chalk this one up to a silicone lottery loss?

Specs:

GA F2A88XN WIFI
X4 860K
16GB Gskill Sniper 2400mhz
R9 380 4gb
EVGA 750W G1 PSU

Edit: Also using a modded H100i

Might need to fiddle with a few more settings other than multiplier and voltage (if that's all you've done so far).

You may also just try to skip 4.3 and go to 4.4 and see if you get different results. Go back to your stable 4.2 figures, then just jump to 4.4 and adjust to stability from there.

Thanks for the fast reply! I tried going straight to 4.4ghz and looking for stability from there with no luck. I was pretty busy yesterday so I didn't get to try many voltage levels, but I should be able to get back on it today. I suppose if the best I can do is 4.2ghz I can be happy with that though.

Just thought of something, I think when I OC'd before I only set my load line calibration to medium. I'll have to check but that might be the culprit here.

Waddya know, it was the LLC. It was set to auto in the BIOS, so I bumped it up to Extreme, and it worked like a charm! I got it to 4.4ghz and was even able to drop the voltage to 1.33750, all while staying at a respectable 59C during Prime95.

Thank you again for your help!
