I figured I might just use samungs data migration&magician software (850 evo by the way) and clone my drive. But I see a bunch of stuff online about setting ahci mode making sure trim is enabled, Im not sure what any of this is. Does the samsung software take care of these things before it clones the drive or do I have to do it manually?

Hey there.

The SATA mode (that includes AHCI as well) is changed in your BIOS/UEFI settings. However, since you've already installed your OS if you're currently using IDE mode, you'll need to change the registry for the SATA mode before you change the BIOS/UEFI settings. Here's how to do that: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2347183/change-ide-ahci-reinstall-windows.html.

TRIM is basically an OS feature, which is not enabled or disabled by the software you're referring to. For Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 you should enable it yourself. For Windows 10 it should be enabled by default. Here are some useful tips for new SSD users (including enabling TRIM)...

Don't worry that it says Win 7, those tips are still viable for the newer versions as well.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
