Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

Current specifications:
Amd a6-3500
As rock a75m motherboard with a pci express 2.0 slot.
4gb ddr3 ram
60gb SSD
2tb HD
300w power supply

It was originally built as an htpc with the possibility of upgrading one day. That day has come, I just bought civ 6 and looking to play at 60fps on medium settings. From reading other forums it seemed like adding a geforce gtx 750ti was a good option that would provide the ability for casual gaming. I would do that upgrade the ram to 8 GB and maybe get a new case and power supply. I'm planning to slowly upgrade more components over time but right now I have $200 to spend and wanting to upgrade at least the GPu and ram.

I was curious if it was worth purchasing the gtx 1050ti for only 30-40$ more. It seems like a better option in the long run but I know it would bottleneck my current setup significantly having such a slow processor and I'm not sure when the next upgrade opportunity I would have would be. I'd appreciate any thoughts or feedback. Let me know if I missed any important information.

1050ti will not be a good.optimized gpu with ur current processor. No offence but ur processor is weak. So I suggest u afford a gtx 750 ti or 770 or at max 950 and u are good to go for gaming. But still ur cpu is problem. Let me.pretend that ur cpu will not bottleneck ur gpu but also cant handle the games in high resolution not because of bottleneck but because of its weakness for processing im games or other tough programs. How ever u need to upgrade ur ram too. Best regards khd

with your current cpu you would struggle to even reach 30 fps

a gtx 1050 is a really great choice, makes the 750 ti obsolete

your current platform however was a terrible choice for gaming on cpu bound games like civ

Thanks so much for the quick replies, this machine wasn't built for gaming, it was built as an HTPC years ago and i'm trying to get a cost effective upgrade to fit the situation. Totally realize, my current processor has no power but trying to figure out a creative, affordable solution. Thanks again, I'll keep this in mind, maybe I could try to upgrade processor and motherboard as well.
