looks like one of them things you had to do some homework on before you buy a card ?? matter of fact with anything you do today - like how now intel removed xeon support from skylake 100 series boards that use to be supported with all board before .

you see a lot of thing like this now when things use to work before it now don't or with this part its no longer supported but if you got this part it is but then what the other does support this one now don't...
Strangely enough I cannot find any GTX 970 that was manufactured by "Elitegroup" (assuming that is ECS - Elitegroup Computer Systems - typically known for motherboards).

With that in mind, personally I wouldn't risk trying to put a different BIOS on it. It could be an OEM version, that would explain the lack of documentation on it.

So what exactly is wrong with it that you need a new BIOS? If it is a normal 970, you can overclock it with MSI Afterburner or similar tools.

I want to change the bios if I can improve the 970, because I read gigabyte update the 970 graphics card for fix the 3,5 and 512mb problem.

You think the best option is only make an overclock?

okey, I understand, I only want to know if I can improve the 970 performance with a new bios, but I only see I can OC for improve the performance.

Thanks for your help. Regards.

its a risk to flash the bios to start with but now you want to use a gigabyte bios on a what ever off brand card you got ??? maybe better off learning how to mod the bios you got with a NVidia bios editor and improve if you can the factory flashed bios that all ready on your card

you go here and enter gtx 970 you see nothing comes up

http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/ECSSearch.aspx?menuid=0&lanid=9&keyword=gtx%20970

so no telling what you really have ?? maybe some crazy OEM made for use in a prebuilt like a dell , acer or hp or something

I don't see that bios used from any consumer gtx 970 listed ? [84.04.36.00.5D]

MEDION® ERAZER® X5308 F

MEDION® AKOYA® P5311 I

MEDION® ERAZER® X5367 F

of them that were listed on a google search of the computers they made with a gtx 970 in them all come up ''product not found ?

https://www.medion.com/gb/shop/productNotFound?connect=

sounds like a good old prebuilt proprietary .. you may change that bios and find its no longer a supported bios on the card that the proprietary motherboards bios will accept and may not work at all ..

don't know if my I would leave it better off alone and as is or you may find your self 100% S.O.L

good luck

I think that's your best policy only way your going to truly get past that gtx 970 3.5 memory thing is go with a true NVidia card [non gtx 970] outher then that I don't see why its not doing you a good job ?
its really not broken so no point trying to fix it and end up wishing you had not ...

may see if you can collect that 30 bucks from NVidia

Yes but I dont live in USA, I obtein this card only for 100$ I think it is good.
I just wanted to ask if I could update it to improve performance, as it is not possible I will not do anything.

Regards.

well I guess a lot of guys do bios mods just save a copy of the original bios that's on the card now [stock factory] to all ways have to flash back if necessary ?

I don't do it my cards seem tro do fine as is out of the box , but some never think so and got to fool with them ?

read up on things about it and how to then decide on how comfortable you feel about doing it

I'm not recommending anything , its all your own choice on what you want to do

I made a backup of my original BIOS, and when I put an another BIOS (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183199/msi-gtx970-4096-160125) the card works well.

But atm I have problems with vegas, when Im going to check the GPU in Sony AVC render, the program said me "GPU is not available" and I try a lot of thinks for fix this problem, one of this things is revert the bios for change to the original, but not fix the vegas problem.

Whit this bios my 970 work very well. What do you recomend me?

''While I am not saying you can’t use NVIDIA video cards, you can, but the performance will not be anywhere near what you get with an AMD video card. ''

''For some reason, MainConcept hard coded the list of video cards into the MainConcept code. Why they would hardcode the list of video cards into the MainConcept AVC encoder is beyond me. Since they have done that, it effectively blocks all newer video cards such as the NVIDIA GT/GTX600, GT/GTX700, GT/GTX900 and AMD HD 7000, R7 and R9 series of video cards from having GPU acceleration when using the MainConcept AVC encoder''

sure looks that way or best use a AMD card

anyway glad your bios flash was successful

Not exactly. No matter if you go with AMD or Nvidia, you need an ancient card to be of any use in Vegas or Movie Studio AVC rendering. The problem is GCN or "Graphics Core Next" architecture is completely unsupported for OpenCL rendering with MC AVC and Sony AVC (is this still Sony or is it Magix AVC now?). This is actually a Magix problem as other editing software will indeed use modern GPUs. I heard Magix Vegas 14 has removed the option entirely.

I purchased the R9 280 specifically for GPU (OpenCL) rendering in Movie Studio (funny thing, after reading that article that was linked by junkeymonkey also). Turns out it doesn't work properly either. With the Sony AVC codec, it doesn't utilize the GPU at all while rendering with OpenCL. That coupled with a specific driver issue in a AAA game that wasn't fixed for over a year, I finally just switched to Nvidia. I honestly have no preference though, been an AMD user for years but got tired of being so far behind everybody else.

If you want GPU accelerated rendering you will need to using something like Adobe Premiere Pro that has acceleration working. Lightworks last I checked has OpenCL rendering working but I think it requires an old card as well.

thing is seems like nothing works properly today - amd does try to do open cl better and ''was'' a preferred card for Linux as well but seems NVidia today is more go to ?

sad thing is and how I like to say is that today when you buy hardware you got to support it/ them cause they no longer support you ..

and why I got 2 legacy rigs as well one with XP [32] with its era parts and one with vista [32]

I had to go NVidia cause some games I use to play will not even load with a AMD card if you use a driver newer then 12.6 now I can uninstall the later driver install a old one below 12.6 install the game and play it but If I go back to say 13.12 the games will not work at all even when I got it installed under the old driver now with this 980ti NVidia card that all work as expected ?

about to the point if you buy new hardware you will need all new hardware and a windows program that worked well on xp and vista may not on 7 and above , even in compatibility mode ,no go

seems like ''upgrading'' now a days hurts me more then it helps and it is about to the point unless the part just dies and I got no choice but to replace it I don't

anyway good luck

by the way I thought NVidia users were crying about that program as well at one time [like when the 900 series came out ?? ]

''If you want GPU accelerated rendering you will need to using something like Adobe Premiere Pro '''

That is quite possible. Last I heard it worked but I can't confirm cause there is no way I am paying a monthly fee to use a video editor.

I just looked it up and i'll be damned, it doesn't appear to work there either. That is just terrible.

I had the same issue with AMD drivers. One of my favorite games was completely unplayable because of AMD drivers. The old 12.6 drivers worked but they didn't support my R9 280 (or windows 10 IIRC). It wasn't until I switched to Nvidia that I was able to play it again after years of suffering from withdrawal (this game was X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion Prelude). Then there was the Elite: Dangerous debacle. There was a nasty bug in the drivers that caused the FPS to drop in the 10s and stay there. It took over a year for them to fix this. I literally just switched to a GTX 970 a few days before they released a fixed driver for it. The game Transistor wouldn't even load with my R9 280, there was another one too but I can't remember off the top of my head what it was.

It feels like they don't pay attention to what users are telling them. When you have a few thousand people telling you your drivers are borked it doesn't seem right to just bury your head in the sand.

Ok I understand, I like so much vegas, premier is good but, I think I can do more things in vegas, I always work with this software.

I dont have old cards but with my actual pc config I can render a 720p video in 30 minutes, the video have 25 minutes of duration, with Sony AVC.

If I used main AVC I need wait 1 hour. But the video is more compressed

I'm no expert on that in any way but what about the professional vid cards like Quattro's and firepros ?? aint them cards designed and used for that

''Our 3rd compute benchmark is Sony Vegas Pro 12''

how are you on the CPU side of things ? dual xeon ?

''I don't game so I don't know much about GPUs in gaming but in Sony Vegas AMD is the card to use. That't not me being biased, that is me giving honest results from using various cards to find the best one for the job. ''
