Whole PC slows down when I play games

Hello, lovely, generous folk of Tom's Hardware! I'm here to exploit your knowledge and goodwill so I can play computer games. A few days ago, my games started performing very badly (eg: Rainbow Six Siege ran at 70-120fps and now runs at 10fps). The confusing thing is that the game runs fine for about 30 seconds before this happens. The same thing happens for Dying Light now. When I quit the games, my PC is generally really slow and stutters, but it's fine when I restart it. If anyone has any insight into what this could be, I'd be incredibly grateful.

My Specs are: 8GB RAM, GPU: AMD R9 270X, CPU: AMD FX-6300, CPU Fan: ARCTIC Freezer 13 CPU, MoBo: M5A78L-M/USB3, OS: Windows 10

Remove the fan from the heatsink and see if there's a layer of dust under it blocking the fins. Common mistake people make on checking on temp issues. That would choke the air flow off from the heatsink and stop the air flow causing your temp issues. You should not have temp issues with that heat sink at all. Also check your fan profiles and make sure they aren't locked to a low setting. Using the AI Suite you have options on setting up your fan profiles.

Unfortunately we are all members of the th union /SR71 is our spy chief,13th monkey is our harambe stand in :) exploitation is not allowed)

I would start with monitering temps and ultilisation of the cpu and gpu, check for anomalies.Check that it is using the egpu and not the igpu.Run a antivirus software, lastly, check the resource monitor in task manager during gaming

Right, so. GPU and CPU usage can get to 100% during play, but moves between that and 70% I think. Now my temperatures are a bit concerning, as they tend to sit at around 70C, but it's been like that for two years now, and I wouldn't expect it to flip overnight like this. In terms of solutions already tried, I've reinstalled a number of different versions of the AMD Drivers and even reinstalled windows completely twice, to no avail. Gonna try antivirus now. (thanks for being so quick everyone!)

If cleaning out dust doesn't help it could be the thermal compound dried out and not transferring heat like it should. You should not have temps like that. Are you using the stock heat sink? If you are i would get another cooler to help the temps out a bit. Temps at the limits for extended periods of time can and will make your cpu fail prematurely. You can get a good one for around 20 bucks from Amazon, Newegg, or some where like that.

I put the cooler I'm using in the specs at the top. I don't remember what my temps were before but somehow this is a vast improvement
