Differences between Z77 to Z170 motherboards?

Hello,

My current build consists of 4x4gb 1600mhz RAM, an air cooler and a gtx 770. I will be soon upgrading to a gtx 1070 and a corsair h100i cooler, but I am unsure whether it is necessary to upgrade my Asrock extreme4 z77 to a new z170 motherboard around the $170/£135/€156 price range. I will not be overclocking anything but my cpu and maybe my gpu. My question is, is it worth it from a performance standpoint or are the new features are true selling point?

Making the move from Z77 to Z170 will necessitate buying a new CPU as Z77 is the 1155 socket and Z170 is the 1151 socket, as well as DDR4 ram rather than DDR3.

The Z170 uses another Socket than the Z77.
If you don't use an i3/i5/i7-6XXX you can't use a Z170 Board.
Also Z170 boards use ddr4 ram, z77 boards ddr3.

The GTX1070 and the Corsair H100i will work with both boards.

If you upgrade motherboard you will need to buy a new CPU and DDR4 RAM. What CPU do you have at the moment?
