I have 2 options for upgrading my Dell optiplex 745 Mini tower:

A: Keeping my E7200 and getting a gtx 750ti

B: Getting a Q6600 and a 650ti

Both options would cost the same, seems like a no-brainer in favor of 750ti but I'd like to keep the build balanced.

If you play single player games mostly, keep the newer dual core and get the 750 Ti. If you play online multiplayer games mostly, the quad core will be better since the CPU has a lot more work to do. You will loose the performance edge of the 750 Ti naturally, but it is a trade-off.

The fastest 2 core would be the X6800 2.93GHz. It will run a QX6800 Quad, you might get a deal on a non SLACP chip. Q6700s are pretty cheap, faster than the 7200 and quad core. D9729 cooler bolts in. I would get the 750Ti and upgrade the CPU later. The 650 might force you into a PSU purchase if it needs a 6 pin power cable. Software overclocking is possible with the unlocked chips ( See the Dimension E520 in my sig.) The 745 won't go that fast though.
