I would recommend you spend a little more and get this as more VRAM will be important.

Yeah, after adding in the Power supply, heatsink and other components I and currently at $1000 without a graphics card. I might as well spend a little more and get something better. I can go ahead and build the pc without the graphics card and buy one when I get the extra cash.

A video card is not that important for video editing. A video card is used for rendering 3-d graphics and effects. Honestly most integrated Graphics on the CPU is just barely enough. I am not saying not to get a graphics card, just saying that its not an integral part of a PC meant for video or photo editing. So I'd be reserved on how much I would spend when it concerns a video card for this type of build.

How much video power do I need in order to not have my pre rendering playback while editting not lag. It is currently really hard to edit effects.

Ouch, you got me by the thorn on that one haha. I have had some trouble with finding a graphics card for rendering and gaming since I do both. The vast majority of cards are made with the gamer in mind. A gamer does not mind if a frame or 5 is off, they can barely tell; but for editors, a frame or 5 off makes a big difference. For rendering specifically you want a card that has stable drivers depending on the programs you use. I don't know which graphics card is best for every one, but as an example i know that adobe utilizes Cuda cores making an Nvidia card the better choice and will run a little more stable yet sony vegas runs, surprisingly, less efficiently with gpu acceleration on, i honestly just turn mine off, and runs better with ATI/AMD.

Sorry I just realized I've been ranting a lot. Hopefully you can get even a little bit of info from that.

Some people will say that you should get a workstation card Ex: Quadro, from hear say data lol, people tell me that they are very activity specific, so do your research when getting one of those.

Alright, and now trying to answer your question as to how much "power" you need. it depends on what your working on is it HD, is it 4k, is it I-max?!

Mostly HD. Maybe 4k in the future. I currently don't own a 4k camera.

But I do mainily use Sony Vegas and have always been an Nvidia fan.
