My laptop loses charging power when playing games even though it's plugged in

I noticed one day I was playing mad max and noticed sound crackling and popping soo I checked on the desktop for heat I found it got to 89 celsius and battery reached 80% and it was plugged in and started at 100 … and now I play overwatch and the same thing happens .. I used to play overwatch on epic graphic settings and I had no problem the highest the heat went was 76 celsius now I lowered graphics and yet it reaches till 87 celsius and loses battery charge till like 80 something .. is my laptop fried? did I push it too hard? also I have the laptop for less than a year now and it happened suddenly on that one day like it was working fine even for Battlefield 1 on high settings ... also I'd like to add that I usually put a fan beside it when gaming but that one day when playing mad max I did no put a fan it was all the laptop's cooling so could that be what damaged it? and is it really damaged? what should I do ?

Sounds like your laptop is drawing more power than the charger can supply so it uses the battery at the same time. What laptop is it? What wattage is the charger, it will have it written on it.

Hello.

If that happens, your battery might be defective or the charging circuit is defective. Have you tried if the laptop run correctly with the battery removed?

If all is well with the battery removed, then you need a new battery. Your battery has a shorted cell.

It doesn't mean a fault, it could have a fault but it can be perfectly normal. If the charger cannot supply enough wattage to run the laptop while its under high load the laptop will also use the battery, this can be normal behaviour. An old Sony Vaio FW series I had did this in games. Also a battery with a short wouldn't work at all, this battery charges to 100%.

It still wouldn't explain the high temperatures. Either he has lots of dust, bad solder paste, or something heats up the pc.

I'd play it safe and remove the battery. If the temps go back to normal, then the issue lies with the battery or charging system. If not, and the temps remain constant, then the PC will need cleaning/paste, and perhaps another charger.

I've seen laptops run with a defect battery...there's no absolutes with electronics...xD But, yes...normally it shouldn't work if the battery is defect.

Okay. Well, I suggest two things you should do:

1) Clean your laptop fans. Buy a compressed air can, and blow out inside your air vents, to eliminate any dust. If you have dust clogs, they should come out. Your temps are rather high, and this means your PC will slow down if it gets too hot. Or do all other sorts of issues.

2) As for the battery draining, it most probably is a failed charger. I suggest you change it and verify if it charges correctly again. If it doesn't charge with a new one, you battery needs to be replaced, or your charging system is broken, so bring it in to a trained technician.

Not as good? If you buy the exact same charger, it will be better? (especially if yours is defective) Just buy the original charger for your computer model, and you'll be set as new.

The most probably cause is that your computer overheated, and something broke...laptops and desktops need to be regularly cleaned out, or else the temps will reach dangerously temperature. Laptops are especially prone to this, and even more a gaming laptop such as yours.

Oh.....So after checking, the battery drain isn't actually a problem. It's perfectly normal....and your charger isn't defective.

These laptops use more power than the Charger can give. To compensate, it uses power from the battery when gaming. You can find of many people complaining of this issue, which is normal. You don't have to worry. If you set your computer to a low power mode, or simply do nothing, the battery will charge.

As for the temperatures, still do a regular cleanup of your air vents. Use a compressed air can to clean them, and monitor your temps from time to time. As long as it's under 90C everything is fine.

so when playing a game now the battery drains from 100 to 80 and less .. so that should be fixed by cleaning the vents? and temperatures do not pass 90 but they get pretty close and that is with a big fan blowing on it to cool down .. i'm afraid i damaged it on that day that i decided i'll play without a fan .. also should i play as normal ? or should i just wait till i know what's going on? cuz it was normal before and wasn't draining even on higher loads

No, the battery drain was probably there all along and you didn't see it. It's a normal feature of this laptop. Even if you clean the vents it will still drain when gaming. It does that for everyone with the same laptop you have.

It's possible something broke inside and takes more current, but I doubt it. Does the battery still charge when you stop gaming? If yes, don't worry, just game as before.

Was the games you played before the exact same one? It will only drain when the load is very high, as in a gaming session. It is possible your battery is losing capacity and discharges faster though, but you'll only know over time if it drains much faster.

For now, just clean out your vents before a gaming session, and then check if the temps stay lower than before. If they do, then you can continue gaming.

If your computer decides to pop again (sounds) and all, and the games get slower, then I suggest you bring it in to MSI or a trained technician.
