Should I build my first gaming PC?

Hey guys, so I am a hardcore PC gamer, (especially Counter Strike), but currently I am using an MSI laptop with a monitor hooked up to it via HDMI and a gaming keyboard set up through USB. My setup has done me well, but especially with newer games requiring lots of graphics power, I know it's time to upgrade (my laptop currently runs Nvidia Geforce 840m graphics. Eesh.)
So I've been planning my PC build for months now, mostly to the help of pcpartpicker and various forums (I'll link my build down below), yet as I grow closer and closer to purchasing the parts, I find myself getting very very nervous about putting together a PC. I've watched a bunch of tutorials on Youtube but I mean, I've never done something like this before. So should I build a PC as a beginner? And if so, do you guys have any good tips/tricks for a first time builder? Thanks for the help.

PS. I know prebuilt/custombuilt is an option, yet I do understand hardware performance and can't help but see most of the companies selling these computers as way overpriced and/or untrustworthy.

Yes you should absolutely build yourself a PC if you can afford to. It really isn't that hard. All connections are obvious so it's hard to make a bonehead mistake.

Your part list isn't bad, but I would make a few small changes. I would not get an expensive water cooler. Just grab a $30-50 air cooler instead. I would get 2x8GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM and probably the Crucial M300 525GB ssd instead.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'll definitely take those into consideration.
