Just wondering about reinstalling windows xp on my old hp pavillion dv5240ca as I haven't used it in a couple years and it was real slow when I was and i'm sure it's got virus and bugs and want a fresh install so I can use it solely for my old video games. now it came with xp media center 2005 and that's the key I have but I'm pretty sure it never came with or had a windows install disk with it. I was cleaning up my room and found my old legitmit copy of xp pro but have no idea what happend to the cd-key(thrown out with my old pc i think) so can I just use the xpmedia key I have with the laptop or will i have issues with Microsoft? or can I get a copy of xp media easily?

thanks

Unlike windows 7 and up, Microsoft dont provide ISO files for windows XP, so you will have to acquire it yourself. On the COA sticker, look for the X number and google that, it will tell you the exact type of xp media centre edition to get, most likely an OEM vesion though.

Unfortunately no the media centre key wont work in xp pro, again, unlike windows 10, it wont switch to the version that they key corresponds to.
