Hi All,

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but I cant find any obvious answers.

I have cloned an installation of Ubuntu from one SATA3 to another SATA3 and tested that both of them work and are functional in the original system. I am unable to run either the original or clone on the target workstation which only has SATA2 connectivity. I need to use this specific workstation as it has 96GB RAM rather than 8GB.

Is anyone aware of the reason? is there a difference in them viewing partition/OS installation?

Would installing a SATA3 PCI adapter allow me to load the OS? (I understand that it would lack the SATA3 speeds but that is not a primary concern)

Solution
Im assuming they are not similar machines then?

I'm nots ure to go about this problem on Linux but this is what I do on Windows.

Install how i want on one machine. Turn machine off. Plug in an add-in sata controller. Turn back on and install drives.

Install Sata controller in target machine, plug hard drive into Add-in sata controller and boot. Then install all your needed drives, turn off, plug into onboard sata, turn back on.

Works like a charm in windows.
