I have 1060 6gb
Asus m5a95
16 GB RAM
650 watt PSU

So I've <MOD: EDIT: LANGUAGE> up my amd 6300 while installing a hyper evo unfortunately.

So what CPU would you buy with my setup to get long lasting results not requiring an upgrade for a long time?

I'm looking to play bf1 on ultra and was getting 70 fps stable with the 6300 but that cpu is definitely not future proof.

Thoughts ?

MOD EDIT: Watch the language

Hard to say how much Zen is going to cost, how it's going to stack up against Haswell & Skylake (let alone Kaby Lake). The bottom line, though, is that if you don't buy a CPU, you're sitting around with an unusable system.

On the other hand, if he had an open-box FX-6300 (same as your old chip) for $100CAN, then that's a good deal, as PCPartPicker shows them running about $125CAN (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/cpu/#m=6&s=23&sort=a7&page=1). $30CAN more would get you an FX-8300, $50CAN gets you an FX-8320. Again, you're not looking at it as building a brand-new system using a chip based on 5-year-old architecture, you're looking at it as buying the crucial piece that your system can't run without. And it's a lot cheaper...

What happened? Did the pins bend? Overheat?

Depends how much cash flow you have right now. If I was in your situation and didn't want to spend upwards of 500$ to make the switch to Intel, I would just check local classifieds. Tons of people are selling FX CPU's to upgrade to Intel. Or buy new if you're one of those guys that refuses to buy used parts.

Try to find an 8 core if you can. Your mobo supports up to an 8350.

To run BF1 smoothly at the Framerate you would "probably" have to switch to Intel...Though I have heard good things when the FX CPU's are coupled with BF1 because of DirectX 12.

Pins bent but we've tried to straighten them up to no avail. Could be a problem inside the cpu because it won't post when the amd cpu is installed. I've tried another CPU and the PC finally booted. So now trying to decide where to go. So my motherboard won't work with any of the new CPUs coming out? If so which MB do you recommend also?

No. You have an AMD motherboard Socket AM3+. You must use a CPU within this socket for it to work. You have options like I mentioned. If you truly want to upgrade to a strong, up to date CPU you're going to have to spend a decent amount of cash to upgrade the motherboard and possible RAM.

For about $100-180 USD, you can get a brand-new AMD CPU that will work with that board, anywhere from the FX-8300 (one of the 2 current mid-range CPU recommendations from Tom's, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-cpus,3986.html) to the FX-8370. That'll improve your prior performance somewhat, & the upgrade can tide you over until you build up enough cash for a brand-new build.

Don't buy a brand new FX CPU. There should be a plethora of them used if you're from a major city. You'll save a lot of money. His motherboard also does not officially support the 8370.

That's what I'm thinking too which is why I was upset to hear that my cpu is the problem. Is the Zen going to be worth it to wait for? For example is going to be a much better investment then the i5 4460for $200? Also I'm looking online for cheap CPUs problem is I'm in Canada and I'm not sure if pc gaming is less popular or just less population because I can't find many second hand CPUs online. Also if a new MB will cost only 50 bucks more or so no problem. Just want to get the best bang for my buck long term. Don't want to waste any more money

You know, I just checked my city too (Winnipeg), and I found nothing but AMD APU's and GPU's. No FX CPU's on Kijijji...There's always Ebay if you want the used route still?

Just finished searching up eBay. But yeah the used market would be nice if I could find a bloody deal lmao. Everyone is selling too close to retail for it to be worth it. I think retail recently lowered their prices so the online community of people selling their old junk hasn't updated their prices yet.

If an Amd 6300 is 100 online retail I want to pull the trigger on someone with an actual brain selling at like 50 bucks lol :( can't believe my old cpu is done for. FeelsBadMan

Def can't afford 500 bucks right now. I'm in a tricky spot I don't want to spend 150 for a temporary thing and then have to spend d another 300-499 because in a year it's too outdated

He's buying an FX CPU to replace his fried one. Nobody mentioned buying an APU, nor is that a feasible option with an FX motherboard.

Right, but then he has no P.C for 2-3 months or more.

Sunwariror, you said you put another CPU in the motherboard for it to function. Do you own that CPU? Which one is it?

It's my birthday in 2 weeks maybe I can work something out. I already bought my 1060 though so we'll see.

Also I didnt own the other cpu it was the guy at the computer store who used an open box cpu. Also a amd6300 but the store price is 100 cad. I wonder how much the zen will cpst?

Also my motherboard works great but it's full of dust bunnies. Also my ram is from 2011 it's like corsair vengence ddr3? But not sure. Not sure if anyone would want it or how much work it would be to sell it

True I guess it all depends on if I can wait or not. If I am going to wait I may as well refund my gtx1060 as well and just get it on boxing day for a lower price as well

I've decided to buy another amd 6300 for 100 cad.

That way I can over clock it and still play bf1 on ultra. I will save up for new ram new mother board and better cpu till after when zen comes out. If it flops I'll buy an Intel cpu
