I've have (had) a perfectly functional home-built system using an ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard that has had a lot of use. Today, I decided to roll it backup to an earlier Windows 10 image which I do now and then - I'm a developer and sometimes break my PC ;-) Left Macrium Reflect restoring the image but noticed that it was stuck at the ASUS BIOS splash screen saying press DEL to enter the BIOS. That wasn't normal - normally after Reflect has finished restoring, it stops at the finished screen and you have to manually restart the PC.

Anyway, no amount of coaxing would get it to boot. Opened her up and removed everything from the motherboard except the CPU and RAM. Even removed my graphics card. Did the BIOS reset via jumper and also removing battery. Stubbornly refuses to even go into the BIOS via the DEL key. Tried a different USB keyboard as well. There is no BIOS beep at all - even if I leave the RAM out. It's dead Jim....

There are a few threads around on a similar subject but no definitive answers. It appears to be one of the following:

    ■ BIOS has somehow got corrupt - doesn't feel like this
    ■ Motherboard is fried
    ■ Intel i5 is fried
    ■ Power supply is fried

Any other ideas? I'm a lone home worker so don't have lots of spares lying around. I guess my question is how likely is it to just be the PSU? Guess I should get one anyway as probably useful to have a spare. Otherwise it's a new motherboard & CPU :-( Hope to re-use my old DDD3 - I'm actually perfectly happy with the speed of the old system.

Thanks, Rob.

PS. Was surprised how much Intel CPUs cost these days. I kind of expected the price to have come down. Maybe those days are over.
