left 4 dead 2 can't get past 10-15 FPS with an r9 380.. yes, really

if i play single player, according to the console it gets 200-300 FPS

in multiplayer, it never passes about 15 FPS, frequently going as low as 5 fps.

i regularly play overwatch on high with zero issues, so it's bizarre for such an old game to be unplayable. i've tried turning all settings down, no real change. the lagging appears to start as soon as i get in a campaign *lobby* too, not just launch the actual game?

i5-3570, 16GB ram, r9 380

anyone have any clue how to sort this out? googled for similar problems but no luck so far

Are you 100% sure all of your drivers are updated?
Also do you have geforce experience installed?

it's radeon, so no geforce installed yeah. double checked to be sure.

went into the AMD settings app and disabled the profile on left 4 dead 2... still same issue

anyone have any clue?

You are probably running on the intel igu,go into the settings and set the egpu to the prefered one,should solve the problem

How can he run it on igpu. he would have to switch cables from r9 380 to his motherboard. and i'm pretty sure igpu is always disabled when there is a card in pcie slot. so not only would he have to change cables but also somehow enable igpu on black screen which could be pretty hard to do

what is igpu and egpu? are you referring to it running on integrated graphics instead of the graphics card? it's definitely not because as i said, i can play lots of other games with no issues

From all the signs it has to be network related.Try speedtest.net and report the results

net_graph 1 in console showed the fps, which sits at ~10, but the latency is at around 90ms... not sure why, or how that'd affect the fps though?

Depending on games,some games have most of the computing done on servers,making a very small file size possible as the data is sent over network,where as others have large app size but the network is just sending positions and directions.Try reinstalling the games or updating,sometimes things randomly reset,no idea why it would change anything though
