AMD FX 8320 OC Problems

So I built a new rig to mess with and have as a side computer for my 3D modeling and other projects, but I put in some pretty decent gaming PC components.
It runs fine and it gets good scores and 70+ fps in Unigine Benchmarks and can run every game at Ultra Settings 60+ fps. The main problem is my processor.
I have an AMD FX 8320. For those who don't know, it's a 3.5ghz 8-core processor with an 8-mb cache. Not really the best processor by today's standards or to you Intel fanboys (which I'll have you know I have a 6700K in my main rig), but it gets the job done. When I overclock it though, it makes my games actually run slower. Stuttering can be anything from micro-stutters to full blown freezes then a BSOD.
I've managed to OC it to 5.2ghz before just to screw around and kept it stable and cool, but I've usually kept it a 4.6-4.8ghz and this seems to slow down the performance of my PC. My BIOS settings have been adjusted to how I see fit (which may not be fit at all since it's unstable at 4.5ghz). Voltage at 1.36 no LLC adjustments, no overvoltage, no DRAM calibration, no nothing besides turning off the AMD Turbo bs and setting the multiplier to 4500mhz.
I'm not sure if this processor just can't handle being OCd that much, or I'm configuring something wrong. And, I know it's not thermal throttling, I have liquid cooling set up right now, and it never goes above 40 degrees and I have an additional 7 fans in my PC.

Specs so you can judge me:

CPU: AMD FX 8320
CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i v2
Mobo: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 (scrapped from and older build, was not my first choice)
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 600W (again, not my first choice)
Fans: 7 Corsair fans in the case plus the two on the cooling radiator.

I would look on local classifieds if you're from a major city. Lots of people are making the switch to Intel right now, so a lot of FX boards have come up for sale.

If you buy a brand new high-end FX board you're overpaying for it.

Personally I would stick with what you have, save your pennies, and make the switch to Intel when you can afford it. You could sell your old FX setup to help pay for it.

Your motherboard is simply not good enough to overclock a 125w cpu. It's barely good enough to even run the 125w at stock speeds. Your H100i probably only makes things worse since it keeps air off of the board's vrms. You can't assume it's not throttling because of temps. You are getting decent temps BECAUSE it's throttling.

I don't see how an FX 8320 with its terrible core design and low IPC could do any better than an i3 6100. I mean, in 3D modeling and rendering, the extra cores offer a benefit, but that's likely lost by the fact that pretty much no 3D modeling programs are optimized for AMD.

Considering you're likely on a tight budget, I'd recommend the MSI 970 GAMING.

Useful features that your board lacks:
1) High-spec power delivery systems for the price
2) Heatsink on the MOSFETs
3) Heatpipe going between all onboard heatsinks to make sure no one components overheats
