[Heatspreader, How does it work's] ?

Hey, i'm about to buy an Z97S SLI KRAIT EDITION. and i saw 2 White/black Blocks near the CPU. People told me this is a "Heatsink/Heatspreader". But, how does it works? Is it just something that blows the air away?, of does it become's heat? or what?

Those are called "Heat sinks". They conduct heat from parts/chips and due to their large surface transfer heat to air and so keep them cool.
