Hello,

I am experiencing multiple problems on my new dell xps 13 (9360)

1) slow start up (more than 15 seconds)

2) when i pauze a video and hit play again, there is a 2-3 seconds of no audio

3) slow SSD benchmark

I had the same problems when i bought the new dell about a month ago. I immediately send it back and bought a new one. Its the sae computer only its now intel i7 instead of i5 and i noticed its also a different brand of SSD.

And can all these problems have to do with the same issue? something that makes the SSD perform poorly?

4) simultaneous use of ,microphone and keyboard/mouse doesnt work??

its not normal right? that so many things are wrong?

Those SSD scores are great, not low. Do not compare an SSD that has ANY use with the benchmarks posted online unless you look for the chart that shows SSD performance after a few minutes of USE.

Check this page, look for "Random Steady-State" and you'll see that EVERY one of the SSDs tested after a few minutes use drops from 100K IOs per second to less than 20K IOs per second. Since these are 4K blocks, 20K times 4K is 80 MB/sec steady state. 80MB/sec is WAY less than you see in the other graphs. The other graphs require a drive that has been reset to factory fresh with a secure erase.

1) slow start up (more than 15 seconds) -- bloatware from Dell. Delete it. Use WIN10 task manager startup tab to show you what is hurting you.

2) "...there is a 2-3 seconds of no audio.. " What is your audio output device ? Are you HDMI to a monitor and sound from the monitor -- if so the sound is generated in the Monitor. Are you listing to headphones ? Are you using any special effects?

"simultaneous use of ,microphone and keyboard/mouse doesn't work??" Describe what you are seeing. Often Applications have control of those devices. What software is running at the time ?

In my older laptop, with samsung EVO 840 ssd the write numbers are way higher. And the access time is way lower: more similar to read access time.. so what is that about?

1) i already did a clean install on the previous machine and it didnt change anything.
2) there are no special effects. its just my standard laptop speakers. I am using a headphone or whatsover.
3) it first happened when using OneNote and trying to record audio and type at the same time. when i wanted to hear it; once i started using keyboard or mouse the sound practically disappeard. there was a really faint sound and now i heard only the keyboard typing Later i tried it with the simple voice recording app on windows and the same happens: recording audio goes well until i start typing again.

Thanks

Maybe you are using the MEMORY cache software that comes with samsung magician ? Maybe you are using a different benchmarking tool, or different version of the same tool or different benchmark parameters (like block size) ? Unlikely that your EVO 840 is faster.

On the boot time, win10 does learn what you use and start to preload / cache it. Windows also does a lot of maintenance the first couple of weeks that it has internet access. Leave windows on and reboot it every few hours and it should get current with fixes and dot net optimization, etc.

Neat. I have not idea why either the sound or the microphone would do that. I'd double check I had the latest drivers installed from the Dell website, then call Dell support. Maybe someone else on the forum here can help.
