I have purchased a second hand Lenovo Thinkcentre I believe it is a model M92P in a small form factor case. My plan is to put in a Micro ATX case so that I can install a powerful graphics card as the current case will only allow for a half height card.

The motherboard seems to measure 24 x 24 cm. I have looked online and apparently this fits fine in a microATX case. Can someone confirm this is true?

Also as for installing a graphics card I will need to upgrade to a more powerful PSU would there be any problem I could face doing this as the old PSU is low power?

doing that (transferring internals of OEM PC into a case) you may face one (or all or any combination) of the following:
1. Proprietary front panel connector (power/reset/led indicators/front audio) - mostly solvable but requires some modding
2. Proprietary layout - the I/O panel can be of non standard size and shifted. the mounting holes can be in non standard layout.
3. the expansion (PCIe) slots might be present or not or might be not in standard position
4. proprietary power connectors instead of 24pin
Check all of the above before continuing with your project.

I have checked about the 24 pin connector. This motherboard has a 14 pin connector which you can buy an adapter for, what Im now wondering is wether too just buy a microatx motherboard socket 1155 for the processor and ram that way i would avoid all these problems with the power. What do you think? The processor is a 3rd gen i5 3470 with presumably DDR3 ram.

Get a case and PSU - you will need them anyway :)
try to fit the MB into the case, if you see it's too complicated - sell the computer as is.
the price of 4th gen i5 (non K) is under 100$. you will get more for that machine.
Somewhat decent (new, i don't recommend used) MB for 4th gen will cost about 80$ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132512&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=)
very decent that support overclocking http://pcpartpicker.com/product/LWZ2FT/asus-motherboard-z97ausb31
but basically they start at ~50$
RAM will be up to 70$ for 16GB.
so a complete combo will be something like 200$ + case and PSU another ~100$ for a decent ones = 300
probably it's the price of the PC you have.
so you will need to add only the GPU.

Hello, I have decided too just get a low profile graphics card for the original unit to save buying a new motherboard and psu ect. I have gone with the low profile GTX 750ti which is reported to run on the m92p I believe, it states the power required is 400W and the power supply in the Lenovo is only 240W, but it is reported to run perfectly in the system despite only having a PCie 2.0 slot.
