hey guys,

I will be actually building a machine from scratch coz then i would able to put what i want, so i can get the best out of the work i do.

i need some help with buying a good graphics card for 3 rendering and graphic designing software's, like the new adobe cc 2017 products, cinema 3d ect....i was told there are different cards when it comes to gaming and designing, which i am not sure of. My machine i use in office cannot handle the adobe cc at all. i am always getting GPU error and the machine is extremely slow, even though my it guy has got me graphics card and also increased the ram....anyway this is the office machine and i keeping this as a bench mark to build a better machine for myself.

these were some of the cards i came across. let me know if these are goo choices and which you would recommend me in getting.....oh and my budget would be $700 mark :)

1. ASUS GTX1080 STRIX A8G 8GB DDR5X 256BIT GRAPHICS CARD
2. ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X 256bit AMP Extreme Gaming Graphic Card (ZT-P10800B-10P)
3. EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB HYBRID GAMING

if you guys have a better recommendation, please give me some advice :)

thank you so much for taking time to help me.

graham

That's a good monitor. I've had a pair ASUS ProArt PA238Q for the past 5 years, no complaints at all, they've served me well. I'm itching to go to 4k, but I can way a couple more years.

Both CPUs you listed are fine. If you go for the i7-6850k, you'll have to get a FCLGA2011-3 motherboard, which are more expensive also.

For what you are doing i think the gtx 1080 (any version, just depends on your preference) would be super good at rendering anything in adobe as well as don't forget to pair it with something like an i7 for maximum performance gain in video and picture editing.

If you're using only for business (not games), consider a pro card. The AMD WX 7100 is a good choice, so is the nVidia Quadro (M4000 or P if it's out).

Pro cards have special drivers which are certified. It's a better option for business use. Some rendering only shows right with business cards.

I will have to generally disagree with Andy. Due to yes those professional cards may be 10-20% better at rendering and other tasks as such but really lag in general use and core uses that graphics cards are mainly used for. So for the price he is asking at I would still highly recommend the 1080's yes you will see a marginal decrease in work such as rendering but overall a better card.

I will have to disagree with typosl. On every type of work, a 1080 will be much faster. Rendering and everything. But for maximum accuracy and reliability, a pro driver is required. Also, many options simply will never work of a gaming card.

Want realview on solidworks? You need a workstation card. Just compare RealView and Ambient Occlusion vs without, and you'll understand why businesses pay 4-7 times more for the pro drivers.

hi typosl1998 & andy, thank you guys for replying me back.

dont disagree guys coz i really do need your help. andy i did have a workstation in office at it was terrible actually. It could not handle my gradients mesh i was creating, feather effects, drop shows ect... most of the effects used adobe cc. i kept on complaining to the it guy and my boss but he just got the guy from HP to come and have a look, and they still could not get the problem fixed.....even now i am still working on the machine and really cannot do any work. it takes almost a min for one character drawing to move onto another art board :( also i have to close all the other programs as well. i cannot open illustrator or Photoshop together coz the slows down the machine. i think that the new CC versions are graphics heavy for the machine.

i will be leaving my company in Feb and going on my own and now, i have got super confused. i really am not an expert i all of this and really not sure what i should be getting really. My budget will 700 with the shipping from amazon coz that's all i can afford at the moment. i still to buy the components so, I need a card that will help me through at least for 3 years :) until i have collected some money to go in for the bigger cards.

typosl1998 i do agree with the pairing the other components. this is the stuff i am getting;

INTEL CORE I7-6700K (4GHZ) PROCESSOR
THERMALTAKE FRIO EXTREME CPU FAN
ASUS MAXIMUS VIII EXTREME MOTHERBOARD
GSKILLS RIPJAWSV 32GB (4X8GB) DDR4-2400MHZ MEMORY\
GRAPHICS CARD ??????? STILL NOT DECIDED
Crucial MX300 2TB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive (main hard disk) & SEAGATE 3TB 7200RPM SATA HARD DRIVE (secondary backup)
DLINK DWA-525 PCI WIRELESS LAN CARD
SILVERSTONE SST-ST1200-G EVO 1200WATTS STRIDER EVOLUTION 80PLUS GOLD MODULAR POWER SUPPLY
COOLER MASTER MASTER CASE 5 PRO FULL MODULAR BLACK CASING
SAMSUNG 27″ S27D590C FULL HD CURVED MONITOR

NOT SURE HOW MANY MORE FANS I SHOULD GET :)

this is all i can afford for now.....let know which graphics card will be the best choice for me. i will not be gaming on the pc guys coz my work will over take all my social life.

thank you,

graham

If you are going pro, go pro. Use Firepro or Quadro. It's more expensive, and less performant. But it's the tool you use. They aren't flashy cards, and not as fast, but they are tools. In the end, it's good luck to you. And who knows. My opinion is that it's better to get the right tool for the right job. Maybe that idea is obsolete.

andy mate, i did not say your idea is obsolete and i would not have bothered asking if i thought it wasn't or if i knew better, and this is the reason why i came to this site to ask for advice :) but i have to be practical as well ...just because i want a Land rover (dream suv) does not mean i can go out just buy it. i need to work hard, save and then buy it, but till then i look towards my next option :) It's the same thing with the card andy. I saw the specs on the card you recommend and if i had the money, yes i will buy but without thinking, however unfortunately i am not in a position coz i have a baby on the way, so i have to look for the second option that will help me stay a float. Rome was not built in 7 days mate :) even in my above reply i have stated that i am going on my own, which means i have to be very smart with my finances :) i have even put down my specs for my machine as well.....if i was a wise ass i would not even bother asking and that's why i am asking for your help, to give me a second option and maybe in a few years i will be able to afford the Quadro.

thank you,

graham

Some of my comments may sound harsh, it's just the way I talk. In the end, it's up to you. I'll also mention something else, your choice of monitor isn't great. It's a gaming monitor.

It's 8-bit (vs 10-bit), has a curved screen. It's color is okay, but a bit of a green cast.

I'm curious, what are you planning to do? Freelance?

no worries andy i just wanted to clear out my side and did not mean anything bad. The monitor wil change :) i just put in in there....i will be getting myself an Asus PB278QR 27 as it would be a much better and cheaper choice. I am a freelance graphic designer :)

another question i have is on the processor. INTEL CORE I7-6700K or Intel Core i7-6850K.......i want to able to switch between adobe illustrator and Photoshop.....what do u think? coz i will using a lot of brushes and effects?
