Favourite games of 2016?

Hi All,

As it's only another month or so left of this year, I've been thinking about the year of 2016 in general. Many people on social media have stated that this has been the worst year in a while, with quite a few Celebrity deaths, and highly controversial political events - the UK leaving the EU and the newly-elected US President.

Please can we steer clear of any political views in this, as it will only start arguments. I want to bring everything away from that, and find out what people have enjoyed most in the gaming industry this year. It doesn't need to be a game that was released this year, it can be an old game that you've just decided to play this year and really enjoyed. It's completely up to you. This might help some people who are trying to find something new to play, and can't think of anything that they like the look of.

So. what are your thoughts? What games have you loved? What games have you bought and then regretted buying? What games have surprised you?

I'll start by saying that I've been absolutely loving Forza Horizon 3 since it was released at the end of September. I had never played a Forza game before, but after seeing the reveal trailer at E3, I simply had to buy it - I am so glad that I did. I'm not even a particularly big racing fan, I've played the odd Need for Speed game on ps2/ps3 but they never really amazed me.

I think that the reason I love Forza Horizon 3 so much is the level of customization you can do with your cars, and the driving mechanics are some of the best I've experienced. I know it's very 'arcadey' but that's what makes it fun. You don't need to be an expert in order to drift around every corner. Another thing that I love is that the developers have not made the game a grind. You can aquire money very easily and quickly, so that you can get good cars relatively quickly. The game aims to simply provide you with an open world race track, and you can race any car you like, any way you like. Love it!

Dark Souls 3 is the high point of this year for me, everything i had hoped for and more. Gears of War 4 PC was amazing until the online multiplayer died, will probably get back into it when they introduce cross-play with Xbox and the MP opens up again. Older games me and a group of 4 have been getting on the DayZ nostalgia train playing some DayZ Exile Namalsk (haven't played Namalsk since late 2013) and absolutely loving it. Now just looking forward to Ghost Recon Wildlands and hoping its everything they claim it is!
