i could get the:
gtx 1060 6 gb OR the
rx 480 8gb

what one would be better
i am planning on playing alot of new games that are going to come out

Solution
At that resolution both cards are more than adequate.

Some benchmarks I pulled up at 1920x1080

Dying Light.
NV 55FPS vs AMD 44FPS.
Gta V: NV 78 vs AMD 66.
DOOM NV 83 v AMD 110
DAYZ 27-55 both cards depending on area.
Dead by Daylight 40FPS both.

Your other games are super easy to run.

Main game to consider is Dying Light. Nvidia will help you there, although you probably won't be able to tell the difference between 50 and 60FPS.

Notes: Doom in OpenGL suits Nvidia slightly, but RX 480 gets huge boost from Vulkan.

DayZ will give better results next year. I was talking to a dev and beta coming soon will improve FPS.

Not sure if Dead by Daylight is locked at 40FPS or not.

Main rule is Nvidia better for...

Both cards have similar performance. It really depends on what games you want to play. You can look at the benchmarks for games to see which card performs better. EG: DOOM runs better on RX 480.
Rise of the Tomb Raider runs slightly better on GTX 1060.

If you give us a list of games that are out that you want to play we can help you make a choice.

If budget is tight:
For your resolution you could also consider 3GB GTX 1060 or 4GB RX 470 and Dying Light with RX 470 would be the only one of your games where you noticed slightly lower performance. Even with the budget cards you would get slightly higher FPS than what I wrote down here for 1080P with 1060 vs 480.

The far less pixels at your lower resolution means that if you are at less than 60FPS its most likely either a problem with the game or CPU bottleneck. I don't think a RX 470 or 3GB GTX 1060 would be noticeably holding you back.

RX 470 would be my personal choice for you due to some games liking 4GB of VRAM.

Good luck!

PS If your Power Supply is less than 450w don't get the RX 480.
But any decent power supply at 450w or above can handle RX 480 with no trouble.

Hope that helps! Best of luck!
