I was told the i7-3770 (k) would be fine, but it seems a bit pricey. I plan on gaming @1440 when i pick up a 1080. Or should i just buy a new motherboard? Thank you.

The i7 3770k is crazy costly. Overclocking the i5 is nearly as good.
