New CPU worked for an hour and now PC wont start

I am fairly new to PC building and I thought I knew enough to upgrade my CPU but apparently not. The motherboard is an MSI 760GM-P35 and I "upgraded" the CPU from an Anthlon ii x3 to a phenom ii x6 1055t. I put thermal paste and everything, and we used the heatsink and fan from the previous processor. We also added a 4gb stick of ram to total 12GB, the ram matches all the specs of the other two sticks and the CPU was on the list of supported processers on the MSI/motherboard webpage. I don't know what happened. It played fine for about an hour and then when trying to open a different game it just shut off and cannot be turned back on. It may have overheated but I don't know what component must have caused it. Our power supply is 585Watts.
Please help asap.

For Good Performance of the Processor use the "heatsink and fan" came along with the Original Processor.

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T - TDP = 125 W
AMD Athlon II X3 -TDP - 95W

See.... thermal design power(TDP) varies

I have reapplied the paste and even tried it with the previous cpu that I know worked for almost an entire year. When i press the power button the fans jerk/twitch but then nothing happens. Pressing power after that does nothing unless I unplug the power cable and reset the PSU. I have heard it could be the PSU, motherboard or maybe its short circuiting somewhere on the case. Good question, I used the paste that the seller included with the new CPU, i looked it up it was GD220 which looks to be a silicone compound and not silver. I ordered a new PSU and silver based thermal paste (they're coming tomorrow). If that is the cause would it really overheat in a microsecond so that the PC doesn't even start after sitting at room temp? Could it have damaged the Mobo if overheated? Thank You, I hope its either the PSU or the paste, I would hate to replace the Mobo.

I mentioned silver paste because it's conductive, and a tiny little extra can cause a short-circuit. I don't recommend silver thermal paste at all.
