Computer: Gateway LX-6810-01
OS: Windows 7 Pro

Problem:
stuck in loading loop.
Cannot use last good configuration & cannot rollback.
When i try to use safe mode it loads & stops on "loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys". It freezes after this.
Try to reinstall Windows 7 from disk & get same loading loop. I switched books to not from drive. It says press any key to boit from disk. I press enter & loads up to Windows logo & restarts.

Cause of initial problem: Windows automatic update. Woke up one morning after an update was installed & i was stuck in a losing loop.

Objective: to wipe hard drive & re-install fresh copy of windows 7 pro. (or fix loading loop error)

I know it's an older computer but i wanted to fix this so i can use this while i build another computer. Have tried several work arounds from people on the site with no solution. I am 100% stuck & frustrated. Have been trying to fix this for about a month. After i couldn't find a solution i just bought another Windows license to do a fresh install but i can't even do that. For some strange reason i think it is a dead hard drive issue but if it is should my system not even load up? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Update: Tested both hdd's- both fully functioning
Tested both optical drives- both fully functioning

so.... testing your hard drives on another computer by connecting them as secondary drives and using "Crystal Disk Info" and/or "Hard Disk Sentinel" to verify if the hard drives are working or failing.

1B) while you have your hard disks out on another do a hard disk error check.
1C) then do a virus scan.

2) memory: if your rig has a decent on board memory test(check your manufacture site for info) test your memory sticks one at a time. Also using a USB bootable memtest flash drive also can get a nice memory test thats more reliable. run it once per complete cycle and see if you throw any errors. if you do its a bad memory stick.

If you have a spare hard disk somewhere then install a fresh windows and see if it acts up. If it...

need to verify all your hardware.

take your hard drive out and test it with another computer. Use Crystal disk info and/or hard disk sentinel. do a short self-test with hard disk sentinel. you also want to scan for viruses while you can. do a hard disk error check aswell.

you want to test your memory sticks one at a time with either onboard or a USB bootable memtest.

if your memory and harddrive test ok then you want to swap out the psu with a known good psu. if that doesn't help.. reseat all your cables and hardware connections.

replace the cmos battery if your system timer reset or changed.

if everything is good....then you have to assume its your motherboard.

try a new install of windows with a different hard drive....

Replaced the cmos battery & nothing. I disconnected each hard drive one at a time & loaded up after each disconnect & nothing. Same with the optical drives. Is it safe to say that these components are not the cause of this problem? Next i guess i have to check the memory sticks & motherboard. How exactly would i go about testing those 2 components?

but the way you say you do some things i'm not sure your doing it right. -.-
