Adding USB boot option

I recently acquired a HP Pavilion A6400f with ASUS IPIBL-LB "Benicia" mobo, BIOS Award 5.43. I need to add the option to boot from the USB port (it has four). Using PLOP is not an option. Is there a way to get this old girl to boot from USB? v5.43 is the latest version per HP.

If the BIOS let you, yes, otherwise no. That simple.

It should have a DVD drive, so if you just burn an OS DVD you can use that.

some old hardware doesn't support USB booting.

I did discover that the boot DVD I have will discover the usb stick and apparently boot from it. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
