In a question on another section it was suggested that SSD rates aren't really that great - even compared to SSDs. I was thinking of running OS and programs from an 3,200 mb/s m.2 drive. Is it really worth it?

I'm not sure that makes a whole lot of sense.

But...my opinion is:
If you currently have a SATA III SSD for the OS drive, changing to an m.2 or NVMe is of little benefit.

If you are building a new PC, and the motherboard and the budget can handle an m.2 or NVMe, then go for it.
Otherwise, just get a regular SATA III SSD.

This would be for a new PC. It didn't make a lot of sense to me to invest into an older controller technology. There also doesn't seem to be that much of a price difference in any of the SSDs.
