Hello everyone,

I built my first rig about six years ago with your collective help (thank you all for the suggestions!) out of the hollowed out husk of an older Alienware. I've been systematically upgrading bits as I could over the years to extend its lifespan. It's primarily a gaming system.

I was looking into building a new system from scratch, but while looking at the CPU and GPU hierarchies I'm apparently still in the upper tiers. Would it be better to more to an X99 mb and start fresh for continued upgradability or just keep plugging along and upgrade the graphics to a 1080 or something?

This is what I currently have...more or less:

(Yes, I know the power supply is too big.)

If a new build is suggested, the following applies:

Approximate Purchase Date: Cyber Monday or prior to catch the sales.

Budget Range: 1500-2000 After Rebates/Before Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, internet, productivity

Monitor: Have one, thanks.

Parts to Upgrade: Fresh build, bottom up. Most of the big components will be falling out of warranty soon anyway. (I suppose I could keep the old graphics card for a physX processor.)

OS: Have Windows, will BSOD

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, Amazon

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA

Parts Preferences: I prefer Intel and Nvidia

Overclocking: Probably not. I live in perpetual fear of explosions

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe. Depending on cost.

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: A quiet PC would be nice. Newest games played are Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Dishonored 2, and Civ IV

Why am I Upgrading: I'm worried I've reached the end of my current rig's upgrade potential, and not being able to run the newest games on max/high settings pains me on a physical level.

Thank you for your time and advice in advance.

Your CPU is still good, and you should look at OC'ing.. it's not hard and the thing still has plenty of potential.
I agree, upgrade the GPU to a GTX 1070, and also the RAM (it's cheap, and the board supports up to 2133).
Put the money you saved away for beer.
